About us

In 2014, we took a flight from from San Diego to Sydney, with six large bags containing everything we owned. Sixteen hours later, we tumbled out of a taxi, tired but excited. Our apartment rental was not yet ready, so we went searching for a coffee.

Suffice to say that the coffee scene in Sydney was an eye-opener (pun not intended). Beautiful beans, beautifully roasted, displaying flavors across the spectrum. And, we fell in love with the Australian coffee cafe culture: warm, laid-back, and friendly.

Our company takes its name in part from the charming and versatile Aussie slang usage of ‘legend.’ A way to express admiration, positivity, and gratitude, it quickly became one of our favorite and reliable ways to celebrate people. When our son was born in Sydney a few years later, he became our original Little Legend, and our roastery is now an homage to family (biological and chosen) and communities that we have loved and who have supported us along the way.
